Dear streikers,
After the dismissal of 97 employees, the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown hotel locked out long-term employees on April 16, 2021. The responsible Canadian trade union has called for strikes in this context.
The hotel was also used by Lufthansa as a crew hotel for the YVR legs. Lufthansa has or will now change this and switch to another hotel in the city.
Our LH crews are accused of acting as strike breakers. That is absolutely wrong. There was no other option for the crews than to use this hotel. As an employer, Lufthansa selects the hotel, concludes the contracts and arranges the accommodation in the hotels. Also, the crews cannot refuse the flights with the reason that the crew hotel is on strike. The legal situation does not allow that. In this context, we have had contact with Lufthansa several times, described the issue and of course, as an ITF member union, expressed our solidarity on the subject. The incident in which strikers were injured by a bus is tragic, but it is not the responsibility of the Lufthansa crews. We wish a speedy recovery at this point!
Nevertheless, it is not tenable for us that public denunciations of individual LH crew members take place. We ask you to delete and destroy the relevant material. We are not the aggressor of the conflict and neither are our crews promoting the conflict. Please make yourself aware that by designing the campaign you are punishing the wrong people.
The crews know the pressure during a strike well enough from their own experience. But we also hope for your solidarity that our crews need their regeneration time in the hotel and that they start their return flight as carefree and rested as possible. Our crews are responsible for the safety of hundreds of passengers.
We are happy to support you as strikers with the means available to us. However, please let us treat each other in a way that does not harm us together.
The fight must be against Hilton. The fight must not be waged against our crews.

Liebe Streikenden,
Nach der Entlassung von 97 MitarbeiterInnen sperrte das Hotel Hilton Vancouver Metrotown langjährige Angestellte am 16. April 2021 aus. Die zuständige kanadische Gewerkschaft hat in diesem Zusammenhang zu Streiks aufgerufen.
Das Hotel wurde auch von der Lufthansa als Crewhotel für die YVR-Umläufe genutzt. Lufthansa hat bzw. wird dies jetzt ändern und auf ein anderes Hotel in der Stadt ausweichen.
Unseren LH-Crews wird vorgeworfen, als Streikbrecher zu agieren. Das ist absolut falsch. Es bestand für die Crews keine andere Möglichkeit als dieses Hotel zu nutzen. Lufthansa als Arbeitgeber sucht das Hotel aus, schließt die Verträge und sorgt für die Unterbringenung in den Hotels. Auch können die Crews die Flüge nicht mit den Grund ablehnen, dass das Crewhotel bestreikt wird. Das erlaubt die Rechtslage nicht. Wir haben in diesem Zusammenhang mehrfach Kontakt mit Lufthansa gehabt, den Sachverhalt geschildert und natürlich als ITF-Mitgleidsgewerkschaft unsere Solidarität in der Thematik ausgesprochen. Der Zwischenfall mit der Verletzung von Streikenden durch einen Bus ist tragisch, liegt aber nicht in der Verantwortung der Lufthansa-Crews. Wir wünschen an dieser Stelle Gute Besserung!
Nichtsdestotrotz ist es für uns nicht haltbar, dass öffentliche Denunzierungen einzelner LH-Crewmitglieder stattfinden. Wir fordern Euch auf das entsprechende Material zu löschen und zu vernichten. Wir sind nicht der Agressor des Konflikts und unsere Crews fördern den Konflikt auch nicht. Macht Euch bitte bewusst, dass ihr mit der Ausgestaltung der Kampagne die falschen Menschen bestraft.
Die Crews kennen den Druck während eines Streiks aus eigener Erfahrung zu genüge. Wir hoffen aber auch auf Eure Solidarität, dass unsere Crews ihre Regenerationszeit im Hotel benötigen und möglichst sorgenfrei und ausgeruht in den Rückflug starten. Unsere Crews sind für die Sicherheit von hunderten Passagieren verantwortlich.
Gerne unterstützen wir euch als Streikende mit den uns zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln. Bitte lasst uns dafür jedoch einen Umgang miteinader pflegen der uns gemeinsam nicht schadet.
Der Kampf muss gegen Hilton geführt werden. Der Kampf darf nicht gegen unsere Crews geführt werden.
